The trailer also seems consistent with the kind of story we saw told throughout Final Fantasy XIV. Naoki Yoshida, the man who saved the now popular MMO Final Fantasy XIV from a horrible fate, is producing it. The game has a great pedigree to it, even beyond the fact that Square Enix has been making Final Fantasy games for decades. The combat looks to be of the Action RPG variety and appears very similar to what we saw in Final Fantasy XV. A lot of the characters in the trailer also seem grim, brooding, or dour. Oh, and a kid’s face is covered in blood after he witnesses somebody get struck down by a sword. We do, after all, see somebody get crushed by a very large rock. While all those things are present in the mostly lighthearted title, Final Fantasy IX, this game seems to have a much darker feel to it, assuming the trailer is a good indication of what we can expect. Crystals, summons, chocobos, militaries, and, I think, kingdoms. The trailer depicts some familiar Final Fantasy elements. The trailer for the game, called the Awakening Trailer, doesn’t reveal all that much but does hint at a few things. I don’t know how many people were expecting it but the reveal for Final Fantasy XVI at Sony’s PlayStation 5 showcase certainly caught me off guard.
